The moon of Zon-Moth is one of those worlds which is sometimes called one of the "colonies," sometimes "Inner Rim," depending on where astrographers draw their boundaries. Many years ago it was a wealthy trading port, then it was a key Separatist Stronghold, and then, after some... "aggressive rebuilding" in the early days of the Empire, it began to slowly return to its heyday as a trading port.

Well, it had been. And now there's an Imperial Shadow looming over it.

The murder of the Governor three months ago has officially been declared as a politically motivated assassination by local terrorists, and even though the agitator responsible for the assassination has also been identified - and shot on sight while resisting arrest - the Imperial attention has stayed. This could be part of larger Rebel activity, they say, and they want to make sure that there are no others in the area.

So the military moved in, and some of the more high ranking officers made themselves comfortable in the Governor's mansion, with only a cursory protest from the man's beautiful young widow, now burdened with taking on her husband's duties.

The problem from the Rebel point of view is that Zon-Moth is a really important site for a key part of their activities - the busy-ness of the ports, the location between the Core and the Rim, and a few key hyperspace routes nearby has made it a significant part of the movement of people - informants, freed political prisoners, important defectors, would all find their way to a nearby system, disappear, and then find their way safely into a Rebel base. Due almost entirely to the actions of the Rebel Cell located on Zon-Moth.

Which up until three months ago had been run by Percy Blakeney - Governor of Zon-Moth.

And the problem is - the man who had been accused and executed for that murder - San Cyr - had also been a loyal member of the Rebel Cell, and no one seems to know what actually happened.

But again, there is the widow. Marguerite Blakeney, now Governor, has never shown any signs of knowing about Rebel Activity or having anti-Imperial sentiment; is hosting high ranking Imperial Officers in her own house; and generally showing every sign of being accommodating in their search for the Rebels. She never really got on with her husband, the rumours say - she was too beautiful and too clever for him and viewed him with contempt - and she was open in her dislike for San Cyr.

She must know something.
Someone's got to find out what she knows.

Sir Percy is away on pressing 'business in his Derbyshire estate' these last few days, and so Marguerite, conveniently, has the run of the Richmond Manor in order to prepare for this, her first visitation from her Language Instructor.

With the aid of her devoted maid Lucie, Marguerite secured the lesser ballroom - the one that happens to be closest to my lady's personal rooms - and arranged for them to be locked up and intruded on by no one without Lucie first announcing their presence to the women within.

The servants of Blakeney Manor are already used to their Master's strange eccentricities and impulsive excursions. The only real oddity here is that his French wife should have taken a whole year before exhibiting her own private madnesses. Lucie, at least, can be trusted to be discreet.

Everything prepared, Marguerite rises before breakfast and ventures into the magical bar of Milliways, in order to return with her new tutor.

The door, Marguerite is overjoyed to discover, leads the Blakeneys right bck to their Richmond estate, and shuts again to leave them back in the world. In the real world.

Marguerite's cape is taken from her, and she retains her composure perfectly while the staff greet them home and retire to the man and lady's respective rooms, leaving them alone, finally.

She staggers, suddenly overcome and weak.

"...Percy?"
